It is with heavy heart that I relate the passing of Jerry Connell on October 19, 2008.  Jerry had recently moved after his wife’s death in June and was backing off from ship modeling, but despite this he still made time to come to the last meeting and even offered many of his tools to club members.  I sat next to him at that meeting and am glad that I had the chance to talk to him.  He used to send my son and I Air Force and Navy related emails.  We’ll miss that.  A fair wind and full sails to you Jerry.

Jerry’s Obituary

The September meeting of the Kansas City Square Riggers was a bittersweet affair as we learned of the passing of Jerry O’Connell’s wife in June and the more recent death of member Tom Rose.

Tom was vacationing in the Galapagos Island when he suffered an MI.  A memorial service is planned for September 24, 2008 at at 3p.m. at the Ritz Charles, 135th st and Antioch  south west corner.   Our most sincere condolences go out to the families of Gerry and Tom.

Received the following from Don Bjuland today:

There is a new hardwood store in Independence and they have quite a selection of woods but do not know if it is any that you are interested in.

It is called Metro Hardwoods, Inc. and is located at 4452 South Noland in Independence. It is directly south of Harbor Freight across the parking lot. Their telephone number is 816-373-1710. They had 5 aisle ways with shelves on each side to walk up and down in. some of the wood I had not hear of before. By the way did see ebony and Ivory woods along with a lot of others including bass wood. Others are can’t even spell out for you.

He had finishes and filler supplies as well as some wood working equipment in the store also. Quite a supply of pen turning blanks which Paul was going to tell his brother about as he does a lot of that type of wood working. Told the people is was with a model ship club so the gave me a bunch of business cards to hand out.

Told Paul about it and he thought I said across the street so he spend some time looking for it on the east side of Noland. So again that is south of Harbor Freight across the parking lot.
